Special Project #8 — New

Your Voice Works

The launch of the Voice Up Media Network — the first media network built on four decades of research showing that writing from your own lived experience improves quality of life. Anyone can take part, and the act of participating is itself the health benefit.

Your Voice Works — Voice Up Media Network

Why This Initiative Matters

Grounded in 40 Years of Research

Built on four decades of expressive-writing evidence — from the first reviews in 2005 through 2025 findings that the story a person builds about their own life is part of how they heal, not just a sign of healing.

Three Ways to Take Part

Upload something already written for feedback across seven areas plus a reading-level score and AI narration; begin the seven-step Writing Journey after the 7-question Voice Up Interview; or enroll formally in an internship, fellowship, practicum, or volunteer role.

AI Feedback, Never AI Authorship

The platform is deliberately designed so AI supports the writer's own voice — scoring, reading-level analysis, and narration — while the words themselves always remain the participant's own.

Already Accessed by Students in 13 Countries

In just the first weeks of launch, writers and students in 13 countries have come through the front door — real people, across the world, choosing to put their own words on the page.

Participation Pathways

All pathways lead to the same documented health benefits. Review each one as a distinct entry point with its own audience and level of commitment.

Upload Your Document

Feedback across seven areas, a Voice Up score, a reading-level score, and AI narration in minutes. Also used for college applications, cover letters, business reports, and professional letters.

Pathway A

The Writing Journey

Begins with the seven-question Voice Up Interview, then seven research-grounded steps adapted to the participant's age and reading level.

Pathway B

Official Enrollment

Internships, fellowships, practicums, and volunteer roles — working one-to-one with the founder to turn lived experience into published work.

What's on the Platform

The network launches with 22 narrated sections, each available in five AI voices so any part of the site can be listened to rather than read.

  • The Voice Up Interview and the Discover Your Voice exercise
  • Research brief, research timeline, and impact evidence in plain English
  • Resource library of free guides, templates, and checklists
  • Creative Voices — writing through music, lyrics, and poetry
  • The Voice Up Quarterly, a publication for lived experience

How People Join In

The network is built to grow through people, not advertising — mentors, creative artists, organizations, and serious writers each have a defined role.

  • Mentors Wanted — help someone shape and share their lived experience
  • Creative Voices — songwriters and artists publishing through J. Ellington Publishing
  • Organization Partnerships — four defined pathways for institutions
  • The Voice Works Writing Fellowship — paid roles and academic credit
  • Published work shared across many languages and cultures

Consultant Context for Review

This project sits at the intersection of expressive writing, behavioral health, accessibility, and media. Consider these dimensions during your review:

Clinical & Behavioral Health Framing

The network claims that participation itself carries health benefit, grounded in expressive-writing literature. Assess how that claim should be worded responsibly for the public, where clinical boundaries belong, and what safeguards are needed when participants write about trauma without a clinician present.

Accessibility & Reading Level

Content is adapted to age and reading level, with narration in five voices across 22 sections. Evaluate how well this serves low-literacy, multilingual, neurodivergent, and disabled participants — and what is still missing.

AI Feedback vs. AI Authorship

The platform gives AI scoring and narration while insisting the words stay the participant's own. Consider how that line is communicated, whether users will understand it, and how it should be documented for schools, employers, and funders.

Pathways, Equity & Scale

Three entry points range from a single upload to formal paid enrollment. Consider who each pathway reaches, who it may unintentionally exclude, and how mentors, partnerships, and the fellowship can scale without diluting the one-to-one quality.

Time Tracking Required

All project work must be tracked using the live timer. Start the timer when you begin working, stop it when you're done, then fill in the project name and notes before submitting. Hours are rounded to the nearest 15 minutes and require an attestation before submission.
